Nigerian man makes solar and wind power VW Beetle. This engineering senior from Nigeria’s Obagemi Owolowo University worked for over a year; on changing the parts, of an old run down beetle. Most of the parts were donated from family and friend; and had an estimated investment of 6000 dollars. The resourceful machine has a solar panel strapped to the roof. It charges a battery. Additionally a wind turbine is installed, utilizing wind. The wind that goes through the grill while driving is converted into energy. It is stored in the battery of the car. The machine is still far from perfect. It takes about 4 to 5 hours in order to charge the battery fully. When asked what the inspiration for building the car was he responded with the following response within an email to coexist.

“I wanted to reduce carbon dioxide emission[s] going to our atmosphere that lead to climate change or global warming which has become a new reality, with deleterious effect: seasonal cycles are disrupted, as are ecosystems; and agriculture, water needs and supply, and food production are all adversely affected.”

The idea is what is most important; as we dawn on an age where fossil fuels are rapidly depleting, the race for alternatives keeps growing. If we can inspire more people to find alternatives and begin to reject the methods of the past. We can create a better and cleaner future for Future generations. Stories like these are an important part of history as we document the advancements and strides our society has made in order to reach the state it is in. The future of renewable energies should not be seen as a competition between things like solar power and wind energy; but rather a fusion of various clean sources, with the solution for the greater purpose. If we keep this in mind I believe our society can make it long into the future.

Video Example of how it works.
